This is my 14th year teaching at Southwest. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Math Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2011. I graduated with a Master of Arts degree in teaching mathematics in August of 2014.
I grew up in Lincoln and attended Southwest for high school. I was active in many things including choir, show choir, softball, basketball, band, and theater. I love sports and watch a lot of Nebraska games with my husband, as well as lots of other TV shows. I have always loved to sing, so music remains a huge part of my life.
I love being able to be at Southwest again. So many teachers and all my activities had such a positive impact on my life, so I hope to have the same kind of impact on my students.
I decided to stay in Lincoln because it is a great city where I can stay close to family. Family is the number one thing in my life, and I couldn't imagine where I'd be today without them. I was married to Nick Powers in June of 2011. He works as a Credit Review Specialist at US Bank and is a very positive, helpful, loyal person to have in my life. Our daughter, Ryla, is 9 years old and in 4th grade at Cavett. Our second daughter, Alana, is 7 and in 2nd grade. We also have a 3 year old, Lynlee. The three of them are a lot of work, but they are the most adorable little girls. We love watching them discover the world. I have a sister that also attended Southwest. She is married and has three kids. We get together with them and my parents all the time!
