Growing Up
Hello! My name is MiKayla Jansen! I grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska and was lucky enough to be raised by my parents, who were both wonderful educators. As a little girl, I was surrounded by my parents’ love and passion for teaching. I believe this helped me develop my passion to become an elementary educator.
Educational Journey
In 2010, I graduated from high school in Grand Island. In 2014, I recieved my bachelor's degree from Doane College with a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education. In 2016, I earned my master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Doane University. It's hard to believe I have been teaching for a decade! I taught 2nd grade for three years and 4th grade for six years at Roper Elementary. Last year was my first year at Hill!
My Family
My husband's name is Ben. We met in college and got married in 2017. Ben works for Star City Heating & Cooling. We have a miniature goldendoodle named Einstein. We also have two sassy, yet adorable daughters. Kyla is 2 and Lynli is 5. I hope your family enjoyed your summer as much as mine did. This summer we enjoyed walks to the park, swimming in our backyard, trips to the zoo, storytime at the library, and camping together!
Teaching Philosophy
I believe in assessing my students in a variety of ways because not every student learns the same way. I also believe in encouraging your child to take risks and make mistakes so they can learn from them. Most importantly, I want to create a safe and open classroom environment where your child can comfortably learn.
Together, we can make your child’s educational journey positive and successful! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email or call me at school. I look forward to partnering with you and watching your child grow this year!
