The summer of 2019 has come to a close and the 2019 – 2020 school year has began. I am really excited to meet the new 8th grade class. I have had many adventures this summer including going to visit Ashfall in central Nebraska. I can't wait to share them with my students.
This is year is expecially exciting because 8th grade has new standards, and as a district we are moving toward "3D" learning. This means the traditional "sit and get" learning is out, and students will be exploring, critical thinking, and figuring out the concepts in class. I will no longer be posting an weekly agenda at the beginning of the week, but will update the LMS page at the end of the week with everything we learned. Using this update and interactive binders in class, students will be able to make up the work they have missed. Please be patient as we learn this new system together.
On my LMS page and Google Classroom, you will find all the information you need to know for Mrs. Hammond’s 8th grade science classes, as well as important websites. These websites will be updated frequently with class activities, important information, helpful tips, and homework reminders. My contact information and schedule is to the left and you can find me in room 115 before or after school. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free so send me an email. I can’t wait to get started!

This is my 6th year teaching at Mickle Middle School, and it has been quite an adventure. Over the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to go to Space Camp at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. It was a dream come true. I trained like an astronaut, learned new ways to incorporate technology into lessons, and met astronauts that went to the International Space Station. It is my passion to bring what I learned from these experiences back into the classroom.
Right now, I am working with other staff in our building to revamp the Mickle garden. Our hope is that it will be used as an outdoor classroom space for teachers, as well provide education and produce for the Mickle community. Please stop by and check out the progress of the garden.
In 2008, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology from the University of Idaho, and later my Master’s in Teaching from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. I have been married for nine years and have a menagerie of different pets including two rambunctious cats, a hedgehog, and multiple reptiles and amphibians that are permanent residents of Mickle Middle School. Libby, Mickle's resident therapy dog, comes with me to school daily and visits students in my classroom. I love to backpack, camp, fly fish, hike, travel, crochet, garden and can veggie’s. During the school year, I spend my free time reading, with my family, and working in both the Mickle garden and my own. Science has been my passion since I was little. I love being in the outdoors observing plants and animals, and my goal is to have students getting excited about science, whether it is through astronomy or biology.
