About Me

The summer of 2023 has come to a close and the 2023 – 2024 school year has began. I am really excited to meet the new 8th grade class. I have had many adventures this summer including taking a road trip through New England.

This is year is expecially exciting because 8th grade has new district curriculum, which Mickle has piloted and taught over the last few years.  This means that students will be exploring, critical thinking, and figuring out the concepts in class.

On Google Classroom and my Google Site, you will find all the information you need to know for Mrs. Hammond’s 8th grade science classes, as well as important websites. These websites will be updated frequently with class activities, important information, helpful tips, and homework reminders. My contact information and schedule is to the left and you can find me in room 115 before or after school. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free so send me an email. I can’t wait to get started!

This is my 10th year teaching at Mickle Middle School, and it has been quite an adventure. Over the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to go to Space Camp at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. It was a dream come true. I trained like an astronaut, learned new ways to incorporate technology into lessons, and met astronauts that went to the International Space Station. In February 2023, Ms. Rogers and I went to a conference at the Johnson Space Center, and saw the historical Apollo Mission Control, Neutral Bouyancy Lab, and a complete Saturn V. It is my passion to bring what I learned from these experiences back into the classroom.

Right now, I am working with other staff in our building to revamp the Mickle garden. Our hope is that it will be used as an outdoor classroom space for teachers, as well provide education and produce for the Mickle community. Please stop by and check out the progress of the garden.

In 2008, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology from the University of Idaho, and later my Master’s in Teaching from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. I have been married for fourteen years and have a menagerie of different pets including three rambunctious cats, a snake, and amphibians that are permanent residents of Mickle Middle School. Libby, Mickle's resident therapy dog, comes with me to school daily and visits students in my classroom. I love to backpack, camp, fly fish, hike, travel, crochet, garden and can veggie’s. During the school year, I spend my free time reading, going on adventures with family and friends, and working in both the Mickle garden and my own. Science has been my passion since I was little. I love being in the outdoors observing plants and animals, and my goal is to have students getting excited about science, whether it is through astronomy or biology.
