My name is Lisa Nielsen. I have always enjoyed working with children and knew at a young age I wanted to be a teacher. I went to college at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in early childhood and a kindergarten endorsement. I student taught in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade classrooms. I graduated in 1994 and taught for a year as a long term substitute in an Early Childhood Family Education Program in Fairmont, Minnesota. This involved teaching sessions for children birth to preschool age
A year later, I moved to Lincoln when I was hired part time as a preschool teacher at Norwood Park Elementary. I taught there for one year and then started as a part time kindergarten teacher at Morley Elementary in 1996. I eventually was hired full time when I taught Reading Recovery. I spent seven years teaching morning kindergarten and Reading Recovery in the afternoons. Kindergarten at Morley grew and I moved to teaching morning and afternoon kindergarten for several years. Finally, we shifted to full day kindergarten, which I still enjoy teaching at Morley today.
