My name is Madelyn McGowan and I teach Spanish for all grades at Moore Middle School. This is my fifth year of teaching. I taught one year in a suburb of Kansas City,  two years at Pius High School, and this will be my second year at Moore. I studied Spanish and Education as an undergraduate t the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and am pursuing a Masters degree in School Counseling through Doane. I was originally an elementary education major in college, but I fell in love with Spanish when I studied abroad in Spain my sophomore year. When I found out I could combine my love of teaching and my love of language acquisition, I changed my major. I studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain for one semester then lived and worked as a nanny in Santander, Spain for 3 months. I am passionate about the Spanish language and exploring new culture with my students. However, I am even more passionate about students and learning right alongside them!

Outside of the classroom, I fill my time with many things that I love. I have a dog named Samson who demands daily walks and lots of attention. I am an instructor at a local gym and teach cycling, kickboxing and bootcamp. I am very active with running, weight lifting and staying healthy. I don't eat gluten or dairy, but I LOVE food and am determined to find delicious, healthy alternatives. I enjoy being outside and moving around; hiking, walking, biking and exploring are some of my favorites! I travel whenever I can, and have traveled through Europe and Mexico. I continue to practice my own Spanish skills by watching all shows on Netflix in Spanish and reading popular books in Spanish.
