Profile - Michael Robb

Mike Robb, director of Irving choirs, teaches vocal music at Irving Middle School in Lincoln, NE. Mike received his Bachelor of Music degree at Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1997, where he studied voice with Dr. Richard Grace. He was also a member of the Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir and Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. William A. Wyman. He received his Masters of Science in Education degree in 2004 from Peru State University. Mike taught at Birchcrest Elementary in Bellevue, NE for three years and has been at Irving for the past eleven years. Wanting to create more choral opportunities for Irving students, Mike created what is now known as the Irving Morning and After School Choir Program with the help of his accompanist Karen Hunt. More than 350 Irving students participate in one or more of the six choirs available for students. He also directs two Lincoln Public School summer school choral camps for middle school and fifth grade students and teaches a Bright Lights class called Broadway Bound.

Mike was honored in 2006 with the Alltel Outstanding Teacher Award and in 2010 he was one of six teachers in Lincoln to receive the Thank You Teacher Award during a breakfast at the governor’s mansion. He recently received the 2012 Nebraska Wesleyan University Outstanding Music Alumni Award and in 2013 he was awarded the F.J. Clark Award for Excellence in Middle School Teaching. Mike also serves in several leadership positions at Irving and within Lincoln Public Schools. He is the music department chair at Irving, chairs the Irving Technology Team, and has served as the chair of the LPS eighth grade All City Festival. He is a native of Lincoln, NE, and is married to Katie. They have two children, Hannah (ten years), and Noah (seven years). Mike enjoys singing weekly in his church choir and worship team.
