About Me

The Visual Arts course for 6-8th graders aims at providing students with art education that focuses on experiencing aesthetic producation through the creative process along with art history and criticism. The course is aligned with the Nebraska State Standards for Visual Arts which covers the following aspects:

  • Create:  We will use the creative process to investigate and communicate personal voice in artwork.
  • Present:  We will understand and apply knowledge of a variety of presentation and communcation techniques.
  • Respond: We will use the critical process to compare and contrast multiple works of art, learning about ourselves in the world.
  • Connect: We will connect ourselves to modern and historical art, different cultures, and art-related careers.

We will develop our understanding of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design as well as how to utilize these building blocks to create artwork using a variety of materials. We will enable the use of sketchbooks for daily drawing, research, and creative process work throught out the year in order to complete works that speak to a "Big Idea".

I was born in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln East High School as well as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Art with a minor in Psychology. My hobbies include reading, drawing, painting, traveling, hiking, and being a dog mom to my Bullmastiff named Claud! My journey to becoming an Art Educator has been centered around my core belief that the Arts are hugely important to both individual and societal development. My dual passions for the Arts and for Child Development have driven my own education and enrichment; leading me to pursue a teaching certification and Masters degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction from UNK. I believe that the art classroom has the unique opportunity to integrate science, language literacy, math, and social skills in amazing and ever-expanding ways. As an educator, I also strive to merge students' individual interests with educational goals across disciplines.

Professional Experience

This is my first year as a certified teacher with LPS, prior to this position I was an Early Childhood Educator within a Non-profit organization in Omaha.
