About Me

I would like to begin by telling you a little about myself. My name is Taryn Abourezk, and I have been teaching at Zeman Elementary School for the past 21 years. I am originally from Sioux City, Iowa. I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of South Dakota and my reading endorsement from Morningside College. Prior to teaching in Lincoln, I taught in South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Sioux City, Iowa.

I come from a long line of educators. My grandmother taught in a one-room schoolhouse, my father taught at a college and my sister teaches middle school. They have taught me the importance of education and inspired me to want to be the very best teacher I can be.

I came to Lincoln when I married my husband, Kevin. He is a journalist and the managing editor of Indianz.com. I have five children.

My family and I enjoy taking long bike rides, traveling to new places, learning about history and participating in cultural activities. My family’s background and interests may help explain my interest in teaching social studies in third-grade!

Third-grade students will achieve much this year in terms of academic growth and social skills. Good communication between parents, teachers and students is very important for your child’s academic growth. Together we will work hard, learn a lot and have fun, too!
